Over 30 manufacturing companies attended a seminar organised by ADS on the opportunity Big Data presents the sector. Invited members heard presentations from the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, Digital Catapult, Siemens, Cranfield University, Meggit, BAE Systems, HP Enterprise as well as capability presentations from Valuechain.com, Atos and borwell Limited.

borwell’s presentation demonstrated that Big Data is pointless without the analytics to process, reduce, fuse and analyse it. It is key to distil out the ‘actionable information’ from the haystack of data.  Manufacturers collect a lot of data ranging from simple indexing and counting devices to process monitoring & sensor measuring in a variety of different areas within their business. This data generation is only going to increase exponentially.  When an advanced manufacturer is able to harness and exploit this data, a competitive advantage will be gained.

The borwell team were invited to answer questions around data security, an area of borwell’s expertise. It is key to keep any data secure and borwell can advise on the best approach for each organisation.

Advanced manufacturing delegates left with a clear understanding of what can be achieved and how they can start to prepare and collect data to give them the competitive edge.
